Listen to "The Happy Man"

LYRICS:

THE HAPPY MAN

How happy's that man that's free from all care
That loves to make merry, that loves to make merry
O'er a drop of good beer

With his pipe and his friends puffing hours away
Singing song after song 'till he hails the new day
He can laugh, dance and sing and smoke without fear,
Be as happy as a king 'till he hails a new year.

How happy's the man that's free from all strife
He envies no other, he envies no other
But travels through life

With his pipe and his friends puffing hours away
Singing song after song 'till he hails the new day
He can laugh, dance and sing and smoke without fear,
Be as happy as a king 'till he hails a new year.

Our seaman of old, they fear not their foes
They throw away discord, they throw away discord
And to mirth they're inclined

With their pipes and their friends puffing hours away
Singing song after song 'till they hail the new day
He can laugh, dance and sing and smoke without fear,
Be as happy as a king 'till he hails a new year.

The Happy Man seems a Hobbity sort of song, don't you think? Pipe and beer. Singing and Dancing. Friends. And to mirth they're inclined.

In a final magpie-ish note, if you want to sing this song like my friend Tom, you'll sing, "They throw away discord, they throw away dat chord" ... which always makes me laugh so hard I can't sing anymore.

And, as I was preparing items for this mathom, the chapter, Treebeard, lay open on my desk and I glanced down to see, "...he made a deep rumbling noise like a discord on a great organ..."

Life is grand.

Enjoy,
Magpie
