DANGEROUS PASSES, a theme for
Middle-earth in the
subcategory of the Ring Quest Theme, deals with the
"One Ring's passage through the world" (Doug Adams,
CR-FOTR
liner notes, page 34)

Places this theme is
heard in FOTR:
-
As we see a long shot of the
Fellowship on the slope of Caradhras, then Frodo stumbling and
losing the Ring.
-
As Saruman says, “If the mountain
defeats you, will you risk a more dangerous road.” And then
Legolas, “There is a fell voice on the air.
-
A very short
statement as the Fellowship approaches the Walls
of Moria. In the TE, the camera cuts to a long shot of the
Fellowship walking towards the Walls and Gimli says, "The Walls
of Moria". In the EE, we see the same quick shot, but Gandalf
calls Frodo to him and advises him to be wary. In both editions,
the quick shot uses this theme, but the versions of the theme
are different.
